Elena Kagan

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle would like to congratulate Solicitor General Elena Kagan on her Senate confirmation to the United States Supreme Court. She brings with her unique personal and professional qualifications as a consensus builder and a deep commitment to upholding our constitutional values. We are particularly proud to see a member of our Jewish community rise to such an important position, being just the fourth female justice and eighth Jewish justice in Supreme Court history.

Cardozo Society Takes in the View at L'Dor V'Dor 2010

On June 15, 1914, the Smith Tower was a less than a month away from opening as the world's fourth tallest building. Ninety-six years later this historic building is far from being the tallest, but on June 15, 2010 it was likely the only skyscraper in the world playing host to a group of over 70 Jewish legal professionals celebrating a year of philanthropy and service to the community.

Cardozo Society CLE

July 27, 2010 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Mezuzah

This CLE is titled Jewish Practices Spark Homeowner Lawsuits. The Jewish home is the center of Jewish religious practice, but simple acts such as mounting a mezuzah or an eruv marker can lead to a dispute with a city or homeowners association involving issues of housing law and even constitutional law. These problems most recently came to a head in Bloch v. Frischholz, 533 F.3d 562 (7th. Cir. 2008) and Tenafly Eruv Association, Inc. v. Borough of Tenafly, 309 F.3d 144 (3d Cir. 2002).

At this year's L'Dor V'Dor End of Year Reception being held tonight at 6pm at Smith Tower, the Cardozo Society of Washington State will honor Robert "Bob" Sulkin for his lifelong dedication to both the Jewish and legal communities in Washington State.

From Seattle Magazine to Washington Law and Politics, Bob Sulkin has been recognized for his legal work in more "Best Attorneys" lists than we can include in a bio. Yet, his achievements extend far beyond the legal arena.
