Latkepalooza 2009

December 24, 2009 9:30 PM

This year, Latkepalooza took over the entire Triple Door, with over 450 people in attendance! Jconnect and YLD partnered in their second year of community building and, together, we lowered the cost by HALF and raised thousands of dollars for the Jewish Federation’s afterschool programs for in-need kids in Kiryat Malachi, Israel. Thank you to our friends at the Triple Door, DJ Piha and to Jconnect!

Spanning Generations through Community Service

How often do Jews in their 80s mingle with those in their 30s?

Well, Sunday, January 24 was the kick-off of MenschWorks where 25 young adults played games and did art projects with Summit residents. They also got a tour of the facility, fulfilling the programs’ dual-purpose of community service and learning about the community. Join Menschworks at our next event on February 21 as we help AJC get ready for its big Seattle Jewish Film Festival.

Taglit-Birthright Israel: Registration Now Open

Over recent years, more young adults from Seattle than ever before have applied for free, life-changing Birthright Israel programs, with less space available. This year, to help meet the demand, the Jewish Federation and Birthright Israel partnered locally to change that equation. Thanks to parents of former Seattle Birthright Israel participants, we are excited to announce that we have ensured that an entire additional busload of young Seattleites will experience Birthright Israel this summer. Registration is February 17-March 3.

Partners in Haiti Relief Making Progress: Need Still Great

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is partnering with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) to direct and provide aid to Haiti after the devastating earthquake. Our hearts go out to all who have lost a loved one and who are in dire need of medical, food, emotional and other ongoing support.

We urge you to donate to the JDC Haiti Relief Fund. Recent federal legislation allows you to take any Haiti donations as a 2009 tax deduction if you wish.

For days, the only operating room in Haiti was that of the Israeli Field Hospital. Read more.
