Story of Impact: Chelsea

Posted on Friday Mar 5, 2010 12:21 PM

Even though Chelsea had her Bat Mitzvah the year before, inside she was still scared and confused and not ready to be the woman everyone expected her to be. Uncomfortable in her own skin and unsure of her place in the world, she would retreat for hours at a time. That is, until her family's Seder in 2003. "I drank four full cups—and for the first time, there was silence in my head. I wanted that feeling of peace all the time."

SAFE Washington

SAFE Washington, a Mark Bloome initiative, is a partnership program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and other entities that offers the following services:

  • Provides a robust communications network to the Jewish community via the Northwest Warning Alert and Response Network, Homeland Security Information Network, and the Secure Community Network. Free of charge, this network is used to alert participating agencies of imminent threats, dangers and response protocols in real time.
  • Develops best practices for disaster response, community security and community preparedness, and provides low-cost and/or no-cost training for community partners through annual training events.
  • Provides increased opportunities and leverages federal grant funding of community security projects.
