$65,000 in Economic Impact Grants Announced for Jewish Family Service, Jewish Day Schools

Today, we are pleased to announce $65,000 in grants to six local Jewish organizations in the greater Seattle area. The Challenging Times Economic Impact Grants were created to help local Jewish organizations meet growing needs for services and scholarships due to the economic downturn.

The largest grant recipient is Jewish Family Service who received $39,000 for Safety Net-related needs: $10,000 for Aging and Adult Programs, $10,000 for Emergency Services, $10,000 for the Food Bank and $9,000 for the Seattle Association for Jews with Disabilities.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle announced today $65,000 in grants to six local Jewish organizations in the greater Seattle area. The Challenging Times Economic Impact Grants were created to help local Jewish organizations meet growing needs for services and scholarships due to the economic downturn.

Requests for proposals were sought from local Jewish organizations in four areas: Safety Net, Day School Tuition Assistance, Vocational Counseling/Training and Domestic Abuse. No one project or program was eligible for more than $10,000. Requests totaling $124,000 were received.

Farewell to an Israel Resource: Sara Lahyani

After 10 amazing years, Sara Lahyani, our Israel Resource Center Program Manager, is leaving the Jewish Federation and moving to Israel with her family. It is hard to believe that nearly 10 years have passed since she first walked through the doors of the Jewish Federation. As Sara describes it, growing up with a strong connection to Israel, Sara has gained great naches, or satisfaction, from helping kids get to Israel.

UJC/Jewish Federations of North America Announces the Selection of Jerry Silverman as President and CEO

UJC/Jewish Federations of North America reported today that Jerry Silverman will join the organization as president and CEO. UJC/Jewish Federations represents 157 Jewish Federations and 400 network communities, which raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually for social welfare, social services and educational needs. The Federation movement, collectively among the top 10 charities on the continent, protects and enhances the well-being of Jews worldwide through the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (charity and social justice) and Torah (Jewish learning).

Laugh Your Way to Giving

Join us for an evening of uproarious laughter, delectable desserts and community fun for our annual community celebration and campaign kickoff! On September 16, we will launch the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s 2010 Community Campaign at “Laugh Your Way to Giving,” featuring the hilarious comedy act Jewtopia and a dessert reception.

Jewish Federation Announces Over $6 Million for the Jewish Community

Over $6M for the Jewish Community

Over $6 million worth of grants, scholarships and allocations for our community and to Jewish Federation programs, services and operations were recently approved and announced by the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle: $5.575 million from the Community Campaign, over $300,000 for specific projects, $200,000 from the Women’s Endowment Foundation and $67,000 in camp scholarships.
