The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is relieved that a suspect has been arrested in connection with many of the bomb threats that were called in to Jewish community centers and other Jewish institutions across the U.S. and Canada. Threats called in to our own Stroum Jewish Community Center and many other institutions caused deep fear among communities. We were saddened to learn the arrested individual is a Jewish man who is a U.S. and Israeli citizen.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is horrified by all of the bomb threats and acts of violence against Jewish institutions and communities across the country. The bomb threat this evening at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Mercer Island is a threat to us all. We must work together to combat the fear and hatred spread through anti-Semitism. We urge all Jewish organizations to be vigilant, take threats seriously, and use SAFE Washington security resources.

Federation Files Amicus Brief Supporting Washington State in Travel Ban Case Posted on February 7, 2017 11:18 AM

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle filed a friend-of-the-court brief late Monday night to support Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s litigation against President Trump’s travel ban against immigrants and refugees.

The Federation, founded in 1928 to meet the needs of Seattle’s Jewish community, filed the brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Guns taken from the home by children have been at the heart of some of the most tragic gun violence incidents in our state, including at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. Unsecured guns in the home also lead to some of the most horrific incidents of kids accidentally shooting their friends. And, most youth suicide attempts are committed with an unsecured gun in the home.
