The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is deeply shocked by the heinous act of terrorism in which 49 people were murdered and more than 50 injured early Sunday morning at a gay nightclub in Orlando. These innocent people were targeted due to their sexual orientation and the terrorist’s deep hatred of people different from him.
We grieve with the families devastated by this incomprehensible massacre, and offer the victims and their loved ones our thoughts, our prayers and our deepest condolences. We stand in solidarity with the people of Orlando and the LGBT community as they begin their recovery from the latest incident of murderous gun violence to afflict our country. We stand for resolute action to prevent gun violence and to combat terrorism and hate in all their forms.
From the shooting in Tel Aviv to the murderous actions this morning, the growth of terrorism rooted in hatred is frightening and action must be taken. We call upon our elected leadership to stand together against hatred and to take action to stop its growth.
