The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is deeply gratified that Washington State’s voters are passing Initiative 594, which will close the background check loophole for gun sales.

If present trends hold in the ballot count, Washington State will be taking a sensible step to curb gun violence. After years of gridlock and inaction, the voters have taken it upon themselves to lead in making our community safer and more secure.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and Anti-Defamation League are disturbed by the increase in anti-Semitic slogans and imagery at recent pro-Palestinian rallies in Seattle’s Westlake Park and Seattle Center.

"We are deeply troubled by the need to put out a second statement denouncing anti-Semitism here in Washington State. Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and all bias-motivated speech have no place in our political discourse," Keith Dvorchik, President and CEO of the Jewish Federation, said.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is shocked and horrified at the tragedy that occurred in Overland Park, Kansas today.

Our hearts go out to the families of the three people who were murdered by gunfire outside the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City and outside the Village Shalom senior living community in Overland Park. The Jewish Federation knows the horror of violent attack, and we are sickened when such violence is inflicted on other communities.
