J-Serve FAQs

Jewish Social Action Committee (JSAC) and J-Serve FAQs

What is J-Serve?  J-Serve is the national day of Jewish teen community service.  Teens from all over the puget sound partcipate on one day joining teens from all over the United States to make a difference in their world one day at a time.

When is J-Serve?  J-Serve will be held on April 25, 2010.  New this year will be a kick-off event on March 21, 2010.

Who plans J-Serve?  J-Serve is planned, developed and produced by teens for teens.  The plannining committee for this group is called the Jewish Social Action Committee or JSAC.

Is the Jewish Social Action Committee the same as the Jewish Youth Council? Yes, it is similar but has a whole new twist. JSAC is about bringing together teens who are interested in developing themselves as social activists through learning about Jewish values, participating in community service and planning J-Serve

What makes JSAC different than J.Team? JSAC and J.Team are similar in the sense that they are for 9th-12th graders and they both focus on combining Jewish knowledge and education with real life experiences. However, JSAC is different in that there is no interview process, no cap on who can attend the meetings and no cost to participate.

Where will JSAC take place? JSAC will mainly meet at the Stroum Jewish Community Center. However, we will be meeting at community service sites once or twice during the six months in order to volunteer.

Who plans and runs JSAC? The main staff person for JSAC is Amy Hilzman-Paquette, the Principal for Hebrew High and Teen Programming Director for the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.

Can anyone attend JSAC or J-Serve? Yes, JSAC and J-Serve are open to any Jewish teenager interested in making a difference.
